SURVICE Fire Works Recent Efforts
SURVICE Fire Works has significant and proven experience in our three primary areas of focus: Studies and Analysis (S&A); Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E); and Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Development.
Since many problems typically require both analysis and test, our capabilities in all three focus areas allow SURVICE to uniquely develop the M&S tools necessary to perform analysis and process test data, conduct the analysis, and provide effective test programs to develop a complete solution.
The following is a subset of recent efforts conducted by SURVICE proving our experience goes beyond simple
fire prediction.
Army Rotorcraft Halon Replacement
- Provided lead role in nacelle halon replacement programs for Comanche and Apache
C-5 LFT&E Program
- Conducted pre- and post-test fire analysis
- Developed fire kill probabilities for aircraft level assessment and unique application within the COVART assessment code process
Fire Prediction Model (FPM) Enhancements
- Perform yearly JASPO-funded enhancements and modifications
IGNITE Module Development
- Developed a physics-based ignition module for the COVART assessment code
COBIGGS Sizing Study
- Provided lead role in examining a common-sized OBIGGS system for four NAVAIR platforms
Aircraft Fuel System Fire & Explosion Design Guide
- Developed an aircraft system fire and explosion suppression guide for JASPO
Rotary Wing Structures Technology Demonstration (RWSTD)
- Provided independent consultation on ballistic test plan and test administration support involving fire suppression, self-sealing, and hydrodynamic ram
Hydrodynamic Ram (HRAM) Induced Spurt Testing
- Supported HRAM induced fuel spray characterization test for fire ignition prediction
Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV)
- Performed a Combat Vehicle Fire History Assessment identifying types, frequencies, extent of damage, and effectiveness of fire suppression systems in combat vehicles
Survivability of Armored Ground Systems from Ballistic Damage
- Evaluated fire suppression system performance for ballistically initiated fires
Development of an Army Ground Vehicle Fire Model
- In conjunction with Enthalpy Corp (now part of SURVICE) developed a fuel fire model and simulation capability for Army ground vehicles
Modeling to Support Damage Control Assessment and Decision Making in Shipboard Environments – Smoke
- Completed a Phase I SBIR for a smoke transport model in support of shipboard damage prevention>
Fire Prediction Model (FPM) Validation
- Conducted validation and enhancement of the FPM code using C-5 LFT&E and JSF test data
- Conducted testing, and recommended new approaches for instrumentation
FPM Verification and Accreditation Support Package
- Conducted model verification efforts and developing accreditation support package
FPM Post-Processor
- Developed graphical 3D post-processor for the FPM code
